Platinum Resistance Thermometer with Flying Lead
The platinum resistance thermometer with flying lead is a versatile temperature sensor commonly used in various industrial and OEM applications. Designed to provide accurate temperature measurements, the RTD sensor is particularly well-suited for use with compression fittings or pockets, allowing for easy installation and integration into existing systems.
One of the key advantages of this Pt100 industrial sensor is its customisation options. It offers a standard choice of wiring, detectors, sheath sizes, and lead types, allowing it to be tailored to specific requirements. This means that the sensor can be manufactured according to individual needs and preferences, ensuring optimal performance and compatibility with the intended application.
The industrial temperature sensor utilises a platinum resistance thermometer (Pt100 or Pt1000) as its sensing element. Platinum has excellent stability and linearity over a wide temperature range, making it a reliable choice for temperature measurement. The operating range of the sensor is generally limited to the range of the lead as a standard feature, but custom ranges can be accommodated upon request.
The sheath material and plain stem of the probe is constructed from Inconel 600 or 316 stainless steel, known for its corrosion resistance and durability. This ensures the sensor’s suitability for demanding industrial environments where exposure to harsh conditions, chemicals, or high temperatures may occur. The tip is TIG welded closed to give a pressure tight housing for the sensor. Many metric and imperial probe diameters are available from 3mm upwards.
The tolerance band of the RTD temperature sensor can be specified to meet different accuracy requirements. Options include Class B, Class A, 1/3 DIN, 1/5 DIN, or 1/10 DIN, allowing for flexibility in precision depending on the application’s needs. The wiring system of the sensor can be configured as 2, 3, or 4 wire, offering options for simplex or duplex operation. This allows for versatility in wiring setups and compatibility with various control and monitoring systems.
One of the main advantages of the mineral insulated construction is the flexibility of the probe stem which means that it can easily be shaped on site to fit your application, perhaps to fit around the inside wall of an oven. There is also greater flexibility on the length on the probe over the fabricated styles. Probes of many metres long are commonly manufactured and these are supplied coiled for easy transportation
For the lead, choose from a variety of options from low cost PVC to high performance PTFE (Teflon) and high temperature glass fibre insulations. As a leading UK manufacturer of temperature sensors, we can cover almost any requirement whether this is low or high temperature or other environmental considerations, such as moisture ingress protection or protection against corrosive substances.

Calibration of Pt100 Sensor
To ensure the accuracy and reliability of temperature measurements, the sensor probe with flying lead can be calibrated. It offers the option of UKAS or traceable calibration, providing calibration certificates that validate the sensor’s performance to recognised standards. This is particularly important in applications where precise temperature control is essential.
Additional Information about RTD Industrial Temperature Sensor
The mineral insulated RTD probe PPL13-P temperature sensor is similar to the PPL1 style sensor but due to its construction is suitable for higher temperature applications. It is suitable for the measurement of liquids and gases across a wide temperature range. Manufactured and custom-built in the UK.
The PPL13-P is ideal for use with compression fittings or our PPL50-TW pocket making them easy to install in your process. The PPL13 is also available as a thermocouple PPL13-T sensor.
